Sound Installation for 60 Speakers /// Unrealized
—
Counterpoint Geometries is an arrangement of J.S. Bach’s Das Wohltemperierte Klavier for 60 loudspeakers.
Intended as an exercise in spatial mapping, Counterpoint Geometries repurposes Bach’s seminal collection of preludes and fugues as a basis from which to experiment with the temporal architecture of melodic sound. From a circular arrangement of inward facing speakers — numbered one for each string of the baroque era harpsichord — synchronized mandalas derived from the mathematical logic of Bach’s musical shapes revolve around the listener in echo physics; a toy model replicating solar mechanics.
Counterpoint Geometries currently exists as number sequences and direct numerical annotation to Bach’s scores.
