The Molecular Ordering of Computational Plants is a science fiction sound play and AV installation imagining an evolutionary return of humanity to terrestrial oceans as glowing unicellular organisms. Envisioned as a critique of 20th century notions of progress, individuality and intelligence, the narrative thematises speculative biology, techno-humanism, teleology and collective memory.
Performed by a chorus of six voices and accompanied by a sound track of synthesiser, soundscapes, and electro-acoustic processing, the script is integrated into an immersive environment consisting of synchronized lights and a cymatic aquarium of bioluminescent algae designed by artist Andreas Greiner — offering a rare and fleeting opportunity to experience and meditate on the technology of organic matter.
